お誕生日おめでとう、楓ちゃん!

I’m going to pretend this dinner was made by Kaede and it was actually very delicious and not crappy.

She for some reason went from one state of undress to another when I brought the cake out, don’t know why.

I think I will keep a record of the birthdays of all my favourite characters then eat cake with them to make this blog even more kimoota.

These are a few of my favourite things

Plastic Army–Japan Front

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

I know THE FIRST THING that’s coming to your mind is, “But wah, you already own that Kaede figure.” And to this quite understandable query, I will reply with this–that Kaede figure was the first PVC I ever got, and as such I didn’t know how to take care of it, so I left it in the sun for an extended period of time, and it got bent up. I tried to fix it up, but my mortal hands can only do so much. I saw the same figure in Mandarake for 1200 yen, so I figured I may as well buy it.

With that matter taken care of, I bet you are now wondering, “But wah, you don’t like Rei! Why do you have a figure of her in a bikini?” Well, see, my friend found that figure on the street. Literally. Standing straight up on the street, right out side of club Sega. I offered him 1000 yen for it.

Her tummy is soft!

My head hurts. Ever since I’ve gotten to Japan, the misguided and borderline retarded cries of English language anime fandom have driven me crazy. I need to let off some steam.

In an attempt to clear my head, I take a walk. Even though I’ve been in Japan for under a week, the walk from my dwelling to the train station already feels familiar. There’s a bunch of vending machines on the way, and one thing I’ve noticed about Japan is that I’m using them way more than I do in the States. It’s mostly because the selection is so varied, and the products are pretty good.

The first stop on my walk is the local DVD and game shop. The name is rendered entirely in kanji, so I’m unable to read it. I am however able to read “パソコン DVD ゲーム” so I knew this place would be my hangout right when I got here. First stop: used DVDs. I spot two volumes of the first Hayate series sitting around for 15 dollars a piece, each DVD containing 4 episodes. I’d consider this if the show wasn’t already being released in the US. Or should be. There’s a whole host of other titles, and there are surprisingly a few that I have not heard of. Only a few, though.

I quickly scan the game section–it’s littered with tons of Gundam games which never saw the light of the day in the US. Whether they’re good or not is your call, but it’s a sad state of affairs nonetheless.

After a cursory scan of PS2 and PS3 games, I head to the narrow 18+ section. One side is lined with AV DVDs, while the other is lined with eroge. I spot Shuffle! sitting around for about 40 bucks. My main aim, however, is a good loli-centric yarugee, but I can’t find anything that meets that description here. Perhaps the trip to Akiba tomorrow will be more fruitful.

I spend the rest of my time just aimlessly wandering around, and while doing so I come across a poster advertising the DS release of Really? Really! I’ll snap a picture of it tomorrow on my way to AKB.

Next stop is Kogo Books. I’ve come across two bookstores in my area, and this one is by far my favourite. The manga selection is larger, and they actually have Megami on sale. I’ve yet to buy it, though. I’m saving my first otaku purchase for Electric Town. The first thing I see when I walk in is a complete run of Gundam: The Origin. Along side that is a bunch of awesome looking Gundam spinoff manga that I had no idea existed. I doubt I can read Operation Troy, but the cover art is positively amazing.

In my time browsing through the manga section, I notice a whole bunch of adaptations of light novels and popular anime. I had no idea so much of this junk existed. I wonder if any of them are good?

Kodomo no Jikan finds itself under three or four shelves of porn featuring busty women, which I find a little hilarious. Opposite that is a whole smörgåsbord of more 18+ comics, just sitting out near the entrance of the store. None of it interests me, though. The only loli stuff is poorly drawn. Across from this island is another, and on it is the infamous Comic LO, just sitting out for anyone to look at it. My small gaijin head can’t get around the fact that this positively dirty publication is just sitting out for anyone–even an old lady–to see.

Truly, this is the greatest country.

I’m getting closer to the station. Nearby is a game center. I’ve been in once before, but I’ve yet to take a good look. I first head upstairs to all the gambling games. Beyond all the slots is a fleet of Gundam 0083 card battling machines.

Once again: Truly, this is the greatest country.

There is a display case filled with figures of sexy anime girls, but among them the figure I’m most interested in is a no-nonsense 3D rendering of the great Inspector Zenigata. That one Misato figure is pretty hot, too.

Heading back downstairs now. The place reeks of smoke, but I don’t mind. In any other context I would, but here it just feels natural. There are a number of UFO Catchers, one of which has a some nice Haruhi figures, and the other has some awesome Gundam toys. I’ll try my luck eventually. The selection of games is great, and at some point I’ll have to at least give that one Gundam game a spin, since it looks totally sweet.

I exit the joint stinking of smoke and loving it, only to move on to another smoke-filled joint–a local slots parlor. Evangelion is the big game here, with Eva-themed machines lining the entrance. Most of them are just playing the intro, but one screen had a picture of Rei in some bloomers. A woman who works there welcomed me, and at that point I left because I felt as if I had to play something.

The final stop on this walk was the other book store I mentioned earlier. There’s not really anything of note, except for SUPER MEGAMI DELUXE, which just may contain every Megami Poster ever, printed in artbook form.

Very tempting indeed.

GOING TO JAPAN: Shopping List (this is by no means an excuse to post CD Japan affiliate links :S)

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

What follows is a list of items I intend to buy in Japan come hell or high water. I will most certainly buy a lot more things, but these are top priority.

  • The Rest Of Chocotto Sister: Despite the misguided cries of naysayers, the Chocotto Sister anime is a fine adaptation of the heart-warming manga by the same name. I bought volumes 1 and 5–because they came with artboxes–and now I’m looking to get the rest. Used is the best way to go, I suspect. I’ll probably be hitting Liberty and various other Akiba shops, but if that fails I’ll have to make do with Amazon market place.
  • Choco Dakimakura Cover: While still on the Chocosis vein, I figure I may as well pick up this nice little trinket, since it seems to finally be back in stock. I may pick up her cute little friend, too.
  • Really? Really! visual fanbook: I love Kaede, I loved her game (that I could hardly understand) and I’d love to own more hard copies of Nishimata Aoi’s work, so this is more or less a given.
  • IQ FINAL PERFECT MUSIC FILE: Even though I was a dirty little pirate and downloaded this album, I’d like very much to own it. IQ has one of the most amazing soundtracks I’ve ever heard, and it’s just a puzzle game!
  • Max Factory’s Asahina Mikuru Gekisou Version: Mikuru-chan is amazingly cute, and my most favourite Haruhi girl. That being the case, I have quite a sizable collection of 3D PVC depictions of her, so another one can’t hurt, right?
  • Max Factory’s Asahina Mikuru Adult Version: See above.
  • KOTOBUKIYA’s Sanzenin Nagi Bikini Version: Sweet, another figure I can’t display in my parent’s home!
  • Otaku no Musume-san: This is a great manga that has unfortunately been marred by not-so-stellar translation work as of late. I have the raws, but I’d rather squint at tiny furigana on a page, as opposed to tiny furigana on my monitor. It’s probably healthier.
  • Some Zero no Tsukaima dakimakura: I kind of want the Tifa one.
  • Tsukuyomi ~Moon Phase~ Best Collection: Tsukuyomi has a most beautiful and haunting soundtrack, and I’ve always been sad that I don’t actually own it. The CD has gone out of print, but with hope I can find it used somewhere.

There will be a lot of impulse purchases, as well–most probably of doujinshi and rare items that I can only find at Mandarake. I can’t wait!

Art Site Update: Shuffle!

西又葵です。

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

As a somewhat rabid fan of the illustrator Nishimata Aoi, I follow her blog quite regularly. I should note that when I say “follow”, I mean “look at the pictures.” I do have some Japanese under my belt, but not enough to casually look down at some text and extract substance from it. As such, I kept thinking that this book she’s been pimping over the past couple of months was an art book, but it turns out I’m terribly wrong! According to Our Man Zepy down at Canned Dogs, the book–entitled Nishimata Aoi Desu。–is actually a book of essays by the woman, and seems to be something of an autobiography. Since there’s about 30 pages of illustrations, I’ll still buy it, but I won’t be able to get much more out of it until I get my JLPT1 in the far-off year of 2071.

The main point of interest here is Nishimata’s opinions on her own work (which can be found in the Canned Dogs link.) As a big fan of her’s, I do agree with her analysis. I really like her work, but at the same time I think there is room for improvement. I’m glad she acknowledges this, but at the same time it doesn’t look as if she has much desire to push forward. I think for her it’s simply a matter of throwing together more dynamic poses, and adding a hint of variety to her character design. That said, she has really improved a lot over the years.

Well, now I don’t have to buy Megami Creators 14 anymore!

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

If you’re new to these parts, let me fill you in: I think Fuyou Kaede is the greatest, most perfect 2D girl to ever grace my walls, computer screen, television set and bed. She’s from this mostly rad show/game/multimedia extravaganza called Shuffle!, and I really should watch the rest of my DVDs. Anyway, I obsessively collect imagery of her, which isn’t all that difficult since fanart is sparse and the stream of official Shuffle! artwork has been expectedly reduced to a trickle over the past year due to Navel’s release of Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai, and the TV series being over for about four years now. As such, I was pretty surprised when my associate Seiya brought some new Shuffle! artwork to my attention.

It would seem that the latest issue of Megami Creators features a bit by Nishimata Aoi (her artwork is on the cover as well) and in this bit lies an all new, all awesome and all Kaede masterwork of epic proportions. Seiya sent me a low-res image taken with his phone, but that wasn’t enough to satisfy my hunger. Thankfully, some kind soul has scanned this amazing image over the past couple of days, and I couldn’t be happier.

Let us examine this wonderful work of art. The pose itself is pretty simple, but extremely cute. I really appreciate how it proudly displays Kaede’s delicious body, and her usual winning smile is the icing on the cake. Something one should notice about this pose is that one of Kaede’s feet is quite prominently in view. Nishimata hardly ever does feet, and I’m going to assume it’s because they’re not her strong point, but this foot fetishist is quite pleased with the hot foot on display here. It’s nice and sexy, and comes with a gorgeous set of devilishly hot, long toes. I just want to lick each and every one of those toes, or shove my cock in between them. But I’m getting gross, so let’s move on.

One thing I particularly like about Nishimata’s work is how she comes up with pretty nonsensical, but really cute outfits. This outfit doesn’t make much sense, but it’s wonderfully girlish, adorable, and what I’ve come to expect out of Nishimata’s wacky fashion sense. I’d like to know how that side-tie bottom is being held up! Seriously.

The piece is rounded of with Nishimata’s signature clean linework and colouring. It’s all very polished and nice to look at… and to fap to!

Nishimata isn’t a perfect artist, but I like her work despite its flaws. I’ll go more into this in a potential future post, because it’s already 9:30 and I haven’t watched any japtoons today! I guess I’ll watch Sora Kake Girl or something. But anyways, thanks Internet! I owe you one!

Original Post

I really wanted this bad boy to go up on Saturday, but I just couldn’t swing it. See, I was busy working on the comic project that my friend commissioned me to do, and I was hell bent on getting it out before Christmas. I’ve since finished it, and it’ll probably be available for people to see in some form… soonTM. For those who don’t know, it’s a SFW Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu doujinshi. Story is, my friend offered me cash to do a comic for his anime club. I agreed, and decided to make a Haruka doujinshi. While it was a lot of work, it was a very rewarding experience. Though, I kind of feel like a dick because it took money to push me into making a doujnshi, but I’ll probably make more on my own now, and they will be terribly dirty. Terribly.

Anyway, on to this current comic. First of all, the de-Tomino’d version is available here. It is very much not safe for work. Yes, in the great tradition set forth by Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, I used a bald man to cover up naughty bits. Since Maeda wasn’t available, I used someone just as–if not more–crazy. I guess Keep Out tape would have been more characteristic of Chocotto Sister, but the image of Tomino’s screaming face over a loli’s DFC is just too funny.

The script is based off of this comic’s VERY FIRST Christmas comic, which you can find if you look through the archives hard enough. It’s kind of lazy on my part, but in the end I think it’s also pretty funny. I did the art for this all on one giant sheet of paper to help me size the characters in their panels better, and I liked how it turned out. It’s certainly not perfect, but it’s a nice way to work. I usually draw characters on different sheets of paper, and combine them all into one comic on the computer. This way is fine, but sometimes it hurts to make detailed drawings really small when resizing for comic composition.

I guess now I’ll backtrack and talk briefly about the last few comics, since I haven’t done that yet. I really like how the art in the CHAOS;HEAD comic came out, even if it’s not perfect. The comic really could have ended at panel three, but I needed to fit a meme and a Newtype flash in. Because Mistakes of Youth is actually a Gundam prequel doujinshi, and Rets is Char Aznable’s ancestor. Really.

The two somewhat Shinbo centric comics were made to kind of loosen me up, since I was stuck in a boring scripting routine, so I wanted to mix things up. I also wanted to throw Anonymous for a loop, so they would stop posting my comic and saying, “NO IT’S ‘WHOSE EYES ARE THOSE EYES YOU FAG’ GOD.” If you start to notice comics being more off the beaten path than usual, that’s because I’m trying to broaden my horizons. Two kids walking around and talking about anime is fine, but I want to channel the kind of spirit present in the opening comics more.

I really liked the artwork in the Giant Robo parody comic, and have no qualms about that one at all. I like the script for THE LIFE AND TIMES OF SHINBO but the artwork came out bad. I tried for realism and failed. Oh well.

But enough blogging, and back to Christmas. Happy Holidays, motherfuckers!

How did I miss this

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Obviously Fuyou_Kaede is one of my favourite tags on danbooru, and considering I check my favourite tags every day, I have no idea how I missed this.

Yeah, yeah–it’s just a stitch from that really good episode of Shuffle! Memories. It is however a Most Dangerous stitch, and I have no idea how I missed it considering I’m the only one who updates the Fuyou_Kaede tag.

I like a real girl

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

I can’t put my finger on it, but there’s just something oh so familiar and calming about her!

(yes, I’ve been browsing http://behoimi.org/. I am ashamed. Me, of all people, succumbing to the evils of cosplay…)

Happy Birthday Kaede 2008 Edition

Monday, November 10th, 2008

I  hope all the good men at the 芙蓉楓至上主義 did the same thing some 13 or so hours ago.

Got a better cake this time. Next year I’ll buy her a teddy bear.

[NSFW] WE GOT THIS SHIT FOR FREE, MAN! Oh and I paid for this one thing.

(Note: I kind of have this mental post backlog that I’m burning through at the moment. I have time to kill so I might as well)

There are nice people in this world. mt-i is one of those nice people. Out of the kindness of his heart, he offered to mail me some manga (complete with furigana) for me to try my hand at reading. I didn’t ask for anything, he just did it. That’s pretty cool of him. I emailed him a big thanks, but I should probably send another one out since the guy deserves it. NSFW after the jump.

Five figures came in the mail today…

Monday, July 21st, 2008

…and I will give you some real quick reviews on all of them!!

MaxFactory 1/8 Mikuru School Festival Ver.

MaxFactory is known for their quality, and this figure is no exception. At first I found the face sculpt to be kind of awkward, but then I realized that was only due to the fact that Mikuru never ever looks this happy in the show. If I had to say anything bad about it, it’d be that taking the headband thing that was already on her head off to put the cat ears on is kind of hard, and the figure isn’t castoffable. I mean seriously, these panties are beautifully rendered, why must MaxFactory tease us so? The panties on the castoffable Atelier Sai figures suck.

In my mind I like to think that Mikuru thinks long and hard about what kind of panties to wear each day, on the off-chance that she will get lucky with meKyon.

Random Primula trading figure

I don’t know much about trading figures, but this one seems pretty ok. Yeah, the paint job isn’t the greatest and the eye detail is weak, but it’s a small little thing that looks good from afar. And hey, it’s cool to have a dainty little girl making a sand castle right there on your desk so you don’t have to sneak out to a beach and watch the real ones do it from a distance!

CharaAni Limited Edition Kaede Fuyou

I was originally going to get this version off of Yahoo Auctions for 1000 yen, but it was early in the morning, I forgot how to bid, and by the time I came to my senses the auction was over. So, I instead opted to get this limited edition version for 6000 yen. I kind of had to warm up to this one. Yes, it’s Kaede, so that’s like 99 out of 100 points right there, but the face sculpt for this one kind of bothers me. I’ve since gotten used to the sculpt, but if I had skills I’d paint some more stuff in the eyes or something.

If I ever see the original version floating around I’ll pick that one up, too.

Random Kaede Fuyou Trading Figure 1

Man, this one is so fucking hot. The best part about this one is the legs– they’re carved out so beautifully that I could lick them all over. Her body is also totally amazing too, and I just love how Kaede looks in that dress, especially the way her boobs come out. If I had to complain about this figure, I’d complain that the kneeled version of the legs weren’t included, but that’s not the figure’s fault.

Random Kaede Fuyou Trading Figure 2

And this is the hottest figure I got today. I just love how this one comes together, from the flowing hair, to the sexy “yes dear~” expression, to the hot hot dress, to the soup ladle that tops it all off. This incredibly sexy housewife looking pose embodies everything I love about women, and as such I totally love this figure. And damn, whoever sculpted this one gave Kaede some nice tits.

And that’s it for tonight! Welcome to the family, girls!
