This comic has +100 wish fufillment points! Seriously, I drew a good half of this comic entirely with my penis. I don’t know any girl anime fans, but I’m sure they don’t all have nice bodies and dress in next to nothing. Sorry. I let my imagination get the best of me! orz

Saga of Despair: Retrospective

Friday, March 30th, 2007

All those comics took me 10 minutes all together to draw, at 2 minutes per comic. It all hit me one day. Like a ton of insane bricks.

My reaction to Code Geass episode 22

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

I plan to watch it again after GG subs it. It was that kind of an episode. By “that kind of episode”, I mean it was fucking awesome.

Defenders of the Galaxy (Angel)

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

I understand Galaxy Angel was (is?) quite popular. So, having watched the first series a little while ago and just finishing the second, I ask you: Why?

The show is meant to be funny, yes? Do most people just have very bad senses of humour or I am missing out on something? In the first series, once I got past episode one, I knew it wasn’t going to be a laugh riot. However, the show was good cute fluff, and about half way through it did manage to produce some solidly funny episodes. The second series, Z, is an entirely different monster. I was told the show was “really funny”, and I came out feeling betrayed.

To be fair, it got off to a good start. Episodes one through three managed to churn out a decent amount of laughs due to a healthy amount of satire, absurdity and craziness. Sadly, after that the show just stopped trying. The setup for most episodes was to present wacky situation (say, Normad takes over the base) and build a story around that. The problem is, there are no real jokes. Sure, absurd stuff is happening but it’s nothing more than that– absurd. I don’t just laugh at absurdity alone. What’s more, the characters grew somewhat unlikable. Could it be because they sliced their intelligence in half? I don’t know.

I understand that’s only two seasons of a five season series, but if they’re all the same quality as Z, then I think I’ll pass. However, if they feel more like a revved up version of the original series, I’ll be all for that. But, sadly, at the moment I am thinking the only good things to have come out of the franchise are character designs, songs and opening sequences. Oh, let’s not forget Rune. Three episodes in and that show is solid funny stuff. Too bad it’s subbed at a near glacial pace.

Original Post

Whoa hey, another comic! Weekly updates are kind of normal again! Too bad the artwork mostly sucks. I am mostly sad over Rets’ expression. I wanted him to wear a serious face, but each time I drew that he just looked angry. What I eventually got down is kind of weak. Ah well. I do really like how the background in panel 1 came out though. And yeah, we have lockers at our art school. They are quite handy.

Precious memories of youth: Farewell, our beloved Kanon

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Spoilers ahead. Just saying.

This shirt is a succinct and accurate assessment of Yuuichi’s character over the past few episodes.

I finally found a spare moment to sit down and watch the the final episode of the Sad Girls in Snow Epic. I had already watched it raw a little while ago, but due to various factors I had to put off watching the fan-subtitled version until just now. I honestly don’t know what to think, really. I mean, I never thought the show as outright bad or mediocre, but the last couple of episodes have been quite iffy.

I am mostly unreceptive to the show ending, because the last set of episodes primarily focused on the girl I care about the least. As some of you may know, I was in love with the series from the first episode, all the way up to about episode 21. However, as far as I’m concerned, once Akiko got intimately familiar with snow covered pavement, the show went down hill.

Once again, Nayuki gets shafted. It’s a sad truth that was apparent from the release of promo DVD with the creditless opening and ending sequences. Much like Shinji Ikari, I tried to run away from brutal truth, hoping in vain for a surprise Nayuki ending. It really is depressing, because the girl deserves better. I think the show would have befitted from those rumoured extra two episodes, if it meant more Nayuki screentime.

But, honestly, on the whole, it’s a damn good show. No matter what horrible taste the Ayu arc left in my mouth, I cannot forget how riveting and wonderful Mai’s and Shiori’s arcs were. Makoto’s certainly pulled on my heartstrings and inspired tears here and there, but its execution was a bit rough, however miles better than Ayu’s episodes of emotional manipulation.

On the production side of things, KyoAni impresses once again. I can only remember one episode where things looked noticeably off and there were some stiff episodes every now and again, but overall the show was drop dead beautiful. I commend them for being able to keep up such quality for 24 episodes. Directing wise, Ishihara is more mellow here compared to his previous work on Haruhi (for good reason.) Nothing was particularly striking about the direction, but it was better quality than your normal TV show. Not Hideaki Anno level, but damn good. Especially the last episode. Beautiful stuff.

I don’t know when I’ll get around to watching this again. I’ve still yet to rewatch Air after watching it about two (?) years ago. Maybe I should just have some Key/KyoAni marathon once they complete Clannad. However, I fear I’ll lose any semblence of manhood I have left after that. Not even Giant Robo would be able to save me at that point…

Also, Shiori is my new favourite girl. Sorry Nayuki, blame the writers.

Original Post

I would so write something if I wasn’t sick of everything right now. I’ve literally been working since I’ve woke up and I’ve properly gone mad. Making this comic did calm me down a little, though. I’ve made Tina extra moe in this. Twin tails, pink hair ribbons and nail paint? MOE RIGHT. MOE. I drew up some different hair styles for her, which I am thinking of alternating between comics. Should be fun. This comic is actually funnier without the text, I find. Well, without Rets’ and Tina’s lines. Their expressions are enough. But yeah, this one is a bit of a cop out. Just one proper drawing. I’ll try to churn out something by next week, but the schedule’s looking tight…

…and I still haven’t watched Kanon 24 subbed yet. Seen it raw, though.

Photoshop Doodle: Night Time City

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

I was bored and spent 2 hours doodling this stupid thing in Photoshop with my laptop mouse. I was inpired by a certain shot in Manabi Straight, along with various other examples of beautiful background art. I am no where near that level, but I try. Anyway…

On Sakura Kinomoto’s legs

Friday, March 16th, 2007

I am not a pervert. Ok, that’s a lie. I love little girls. They are so beautiful. Ms. Kinomoto is no exception. One piece of animation from the Kero 10 minute short that came with the second CCS movie caught my eye. It was a beautifully animated sequence of Sakura moving her legs in tight frilly red shorts. I nearly came. Whoever animated that is a dirty pedophile. Seriously. Just look at that detail.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu English Trailer

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

http://www.asosbrigade.com just updated their site with an English trailer for Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. It can be found on the main page of the site, or directly on Revver. My thoughts on the English dub? Quite bad. To be fair, I don’t watch English dubs so I don’t know how bad it is on the whole English-dub-scale. Whoever does Haruhi kind of has the same quality as Aya but at the same time kind of doesn’t, and I’m convinced no American person can emulate Kyon’s voice in English. Same for Mikuru. Yuki didn’t talk, which isn’t surprising. Itsuki didn’t talk either, which is surprising.

But yeah, you dub people have a ball.

Dear Kyoto Animation,

Monday, March 12th, 2007

First off, let me applaud you on your work with the Kanon remake. I like it a lot. It’s a great show. Rather, it was a great show. Yes, you guys pretty much fixed all of Toei’s major errors. You made the artwork better, improved the animation, gave it a longer episode count; all that good stuff. However, you neglected to fix the most important thing: the winning girl.

As any sane person may have assessed, the main thing that ruined Toei’s rendition of the Sad Girls in Snow epic was who eventually won in the end. Ayu is not a good character. She is uguu, taiyaki, pounce and then repeat. A story around such a person does not make for a compelling series finale. However, a cousin does. Not just any cousin, though. A cousin who holds an unrequited love for the (dashing) male lead who (for some reason) doesn’t give her the time of day. There’s just… so much stuff there. Far more stuff than some girl the main character met when he was younger who died because she was stupid and fell off a tree, and then comes back as a ghost. Who cares? She is dead, a stiff, gone to meet her maker, and ate her pancakes. You can only write so much about a dead girl. And whether the viewers care or not is a whole another issue you have to wrestle with. It is quite clear that everyone cares for Nayuki. Furthermore, it is far more plausible for a romantic relationship to form between Nayuki and Yuuichi given their history. Ayu and Yuuichi’s relationship is forced. Right from that kiss at the end of episode 19. There was nothing leading up to them “loving” each other. Sure, close friends maybe, but love? Give me a break, KyoAni.

Sincerely, Wildarmsheero

P.S. I did appreciate the Mikuru look-a-like in episode 23. However, I still won’t forgive you for the Ayu ending. Not even for a strawberry sundae~

P.P.S. What a slut (nsfw)

Comic Site Rant: HARD WORK AND GUTS

Original Post

Yeah, I don’t feel like making an avatar for this week.

I think I’m allowed to be stupid every now and again. I mean, I’m not going to lie, this comic is fucking stupid. Certain comics have been stupid, but this is just… really stupid. Why is Tina even crying? That site had little to nothing for girls. Please, take this comic as a very “what if” situation. Which is to say, pretend that it didn’t really happen. Or something. Though, I did really wanted to do something about danbooru, given its significance to US Otaku culture. Sure, we have sagubooru now, but danbooru was the original, and must be remembered. Anyway, writing woes aside, I do like the artwork. I especially like how Ikeda’s face came out in the last panel (also, yes, he did make an appearance in a previous comic.) I enjoy drawing men in suits for some reason, so the guys were fun to draw. I had fun drawing Tina, too. I don’t know much about dresses, so when it comes to drawing them, I just draw something sexy that I’d fap to, which is exactly what I did here. Sexual fantasy ftw :3

More US Haruhi Details

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

So I just looked at the source code for asosbrigade.com, and…

<!– Some of them desire the original japanese OP/EDs untouched –>
<!– They don’t want english credits? :( –>
<!– It is difficult to please everyone at the same time –>
<!– What about multi-angle video? –>
<!– Done improperly it will look ugly, let’s devote the full stream to one video –>
<!– How about putting the Japanese-language OP/ED sequence on the special edition DVDs? –>
<!– So regular edition will have english-translated OP/EDs, and the special edition will have the original Japanese-language OP/EDs left as-is? –>
<!– An excellent compromise. –>
<!– Let us hope they are happy –>
<!– I wonder if anyone reads these messages? –>
<!– Are you packed yet? –>

I know this is stupid and picky of me, but I like when companies leave the credits in Japanese (or do the whole multi-angle thing, which FUNi does.) English credits on a Japanese production just seems awfully strange to me. It doesn’t affect my viewing experience either way, I just prefer the credits in Japanese. So it seems the original opening and endings will be left as is on the special editions, which is cool, given I’ll be buying those. I guess their reasoning was that the more hardcore fans would buy the SEs, and the hardcore fans are the only ones who would care about such a detail. I’m coming to like this release more and more.

<!– I wonder if anyone reads these messages? –>

Ahaha~

March Anime, Spring Picks

Saturday, March 3rd, 2007

From here.

Fansubs/Raw
Ayakashi Ayashi: I think I should drop this.
Code Geass: Subs are slowing down, but it’s not much of a problem. I’m liking the recent developments a lot. Consistently good. I’m kind of surprised that the animation has been incredibly consistent and fluid up till this point. The show is at episode 17 now and there’s only been subtle quality drops.
Death Note: Luls at the new opening. Really just watching it for the pretty visuals, ’cause I already know what’s going on.
First Gundam: Sub more Sixtydeuce.
Hidamari Sketch: Oh hay people are subbing this now. Kind of behind.
Jigoku Shoujo Futagomori: Still a lot better than series one. Subs are way behind, but I guess that’s fine. Animation is so pretty this time around.
Kanon: The SAD GIRLS IN SNOW epic comes to an end. Poor Nayuki. Oh btw please someone license this so I don’t have to buy overpriced Japanese DVDs.
Manabi Straight: How come we’ve not seen any gothlolimaid commandos or combat squids yet? Is UFOtable sick? I’m liking this one a lot. Great production and great characters. But still, doesn’t really stick with me…
Negima!?: Neither here nor there. But Motsu is awesome.
Nodame Cantabile: Consistently entertaining. I know it’s terrible of me to like girly stuff by Nodame hits all the right notes (lol pun.) Animation kind of sucks though.
Pumpkin Scissors: Has some moments of greatness, and the characters have grown on me. But still, fairly bland and generic. How many episodes is this meant to be?
Shuffle! Memories: I’d rather watch the real TV series.

DVD
Cardcaptor Sakura: Coming to the end. Viewing has stalled due to a sudden surge in school work. Midterms and all that. Liking it a lot, though. Due for a rewatch in the future, most definitely.
Galaxy Angel Z: This was meant to the one that’s funny, right? I just watched the first two episodes and was only mildly amused… Rune is funnier. But I still like the Angel Tai, so.

Reading
Genshiken: Stalled due to school.

Dropped the Haruhi novels because I hate reading things on my computer. Hoping in vain for a US release.

Recently Finished
Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time): Wonderful, absolutely wonderful. Anyone who has taste will like this movie. If you get a chance to see it, watch it. It’ll be worth it. Big plus if you’re into some light SF.
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu: Really enjoyed my second watch a lot better than the first. Various reasons behind this, but I’m think I’ve finally converted over to Haruhiism. Kinda late to the party, I guess.

Gonna start Magical Pokaan once I finish CCS.

edit: lol forgot about Rocket Girl and Miina. Probably some other ones, too.

Spring Picks

The ones in bold are things I’ll watch no matter what. The rest is just stuff I have a passing interest in.

Darker Than Black: I think Bones is kind of shitty, but the art for this looks interesting. I don’t know what the premise is though.
Romeo x Juliet: Let’s see what those crackheadspots at Gonzo come up with. I’m not much for Shakespeare, though (the man bores me to tears.)
Gurren Lagann: I have already declared this the best anime of 2007. If Gainax lets me down I will personally kill all of them. Also, Yoko is hot. Just sayin’.
Hayate the Combat Butler: Someone told me it was funny.
Idolmaster: Eh? I guess. It’s Sunrise after all.
Bokurano: This looks pretty rad. Gonzo, but apparently Ghibli guys are on staff. Or I could be getting this mixed up with something else.
Lucky Star: For the KyoAni factor alone.
Dennou Coil: Don’t know what it’s about, but I saw some awesome production art.
Guardian of the Sacred Spirit: GITS:SAC team apparently. I’ll watch it for that.
Jeeg: Blame Matthew Alt for bringing this to my attention. Remake of classic Nagai show, apparently. Providing some losers sub it (they won’t) I’ll watch it.

And maybe some trashy harem shows too. Those are always good. So far I only really wanna watch Gurren Lagann though.

Otaku USA

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

Orignal Post

Sorry for the delays. I’ll try to make a comic by next week, but I’m swamped with projects… Oh, you want to know about Mistakes of Youth being published, don’t you? Ok. I take it you all read Patrick’s blog (and if you don’t you suck.) Well, if you do read his blog, you’d know that he is now the editor in cheif and an upcoming magazine called Otaku USA. What does this have to do with me? Well, I’ll be making a comic for each issue. They didn’t really put any creative constraints on me, so I think it’ll be fine so long as each comic is funny. So, with that in mind, I’ve just decided to make it a print version of Mistakes of Youth. Now, the comics in Otaku USA will not be the comics on the site for a variety of reasons. One reason is, the size. When I make comics for the site I do the comic construction work in 72 dpi (character art is done in 300 dpi though.) For the magazine, I have to do everything in 300 dpi. Also, given this is a general audiences magazine, the jokes can’t be as obscure as they are here. Sure, I’ll still be rude and angry, but I’ll just talk about more general anime related things. It’s kind of like what Ian did for Inside Mac Gaming a few years back. I’m in the dark as to what the rest of the magazine will be like, so I’ll be as surprised as you all are when it first hits. Please check it out once it hits in June!

The tragic death of Danbooru

T_T

Now where am I going to get all my porn? Where am I going to find more wacky Japanese artists?

Well it’s a good thing I saved the Mexican Samba flash. I should have done the same with the Iosys ones…
