May 2008 Anime + Manga
Hay hay May
Watching
Allison & Lillia: Bit too much “for the family” polish for my tastes. Not sure if I’ll stick with it.
Chi’s Sweet Home: 3 minutes of joy
Code Goose 2: JUST ASS PLANNED hilarity and general madness. Good times.
Golgo 13: ….
Kanokon: I can’t believe it’s not porn!!
Kure-nai: Best of the season. Great animation, great writing, great acting… just perfect.
Kyouran Kazoku Nikki: Second best of the season. Good mix of craziness and drama. Fuka is too cute. Love abused lolis.
Macross F: Third best, I guess. Not much of a Macross fan, but this is good enough. Nice space battles and nyannyan dances.
To-LOVE-Ru: Guilty pleasure show of the season. I love it.
Toshokan Sensou: A good Production IG show?? And they said it couldn’t be done…
Zettai Karen Children: Decent fluff. Can’t really get past the hay 1990s art style, though.
Finishing Dennou Coil tomorrow. It is a good show.
Reading
Gunslinger Girl: Makes me want to watch the anime again. Great stuff.
Read some Ichinensei ni Nacchattara. It’s good.
Watch Kamen no Maid Guy. It’s incredible. Words fail.
I watched the first episode and /really/ didn’t like it :/
So, how do you feel about being on the Best Dorama section of the Anime Blog Awards?
I feel out of place, since I only really caused drama once.
But it was big drama.
holy shit, ichinensei is getting scanslated?! Fuck yeah!
I came from Weekly ASCII.
I recommend you ‘Fireball’.

It is the best anime of this season.
Re: “Hay 1990’s art style”–actually in the early 90’s (1992 I think?) there was an anime based on the same mangaka’s “Ghost Sweeper Mikami” series, drawn pretty much in that same style, and even back then, I thought it looked way dated compared to what was showing. You’d think he’d have changed styles some by now… @_@;
>>Mao
I’d watch Fireball, but I don’t really like 3D cg that much.
>>Tomoyo
Yeah, I remember seeing ads for Mikami in old issues of Animerica. Never could get past the style. I mean, I love 90s artwork, but this guy highlights most of what’s wrong with it…
And “Rets”, what’s up with that name, like REALLY MAN.
It’s a reference to http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=1202
I watched one episode of this show dubbed in Thai once. It was an experience I will never forget.
The ending of episode 3 of Kyouran Kazoku Nikki is EPIC. I don’t know why though, but it is.
The only differences I see in your currently viewing list and mine is I’m not watching Zettai Karen Children or Allison & Lillia, although I am watching Special A…..I honestly don’t know why….
@response to Anon’s question: so that’s where that name came from…I’d been sorta curious too.
Yeah, my viewing list is small…and not as updated. I’ve still not taken finals (its next week) and I’ve been studying my arse off for Japanese. (Damn GMU and making all Languages advanced study)
Other than that, I’ve been meaning to see Allison & Lillia. Macross F and Code Geass 2 I haven’t seen since committing myself to studying to pass the Japanese final. ( Though I can take any Government class and not study yet still pass with an average of 3.5. Tis how awesome I am.)
LOL I think I recommended Ichinensei ni Nacchattara to you while back. Damn, we’re going to have to hang out some time. AND PLOT. Yeah, i fucking LOVE abused lolis its my most guilty pleasure. However, I think most people like them not because they want abuse the loli but to rescue the poor abused girl and that makes them feel big and important. I really don’t want to abuse them either, but if they aren’t abused my GAR man-rage is not properly incited and I do not finger the many weapons laying before my computer. I dunno if I have recommended “Cannon Sensei Tobashisugi” to you. It is possibly the greatest and wrongest lolicon h-manga of all time. Both good writing AND perversity abound. Its a strange beast.
Just going to tell you that I’m sorely disappointed with the Moon Phase DVDs, the excellent quality of many online fansubs has ruined me on the cheap craptacular subtitles that the licensed release has.
Eh, the subs work fine enough for me. I’ve learned to live with it. At least the animation is way better than the TV fansubs, though.
