Giant Robo is the best anime ever

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Because of this

In the words of a poet, “Finger snapping guy ROCKS!”

I need to see Giant Robo again. I saw it once about a year ago and really fucking liked it once I got over the fact that it wasn’t about super retro robot designs and actually about super heroes with awesome super powers. I need to watch it again, and so you should you! If you’re an awesome person who likes awesome things, you’ll love this. Andrew Cunningham calls it the greatest anime of all time, so if you don’t want to listen to me, at least to listen to him! He translates your Japanese crap!

 pt III Be Forever, Internet Dorama

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

In this final installment of my epic and experimental  saga (with an anime adapation directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, animated by SHAFT coming next summer) I will clear up some misconceptions that have been floating around (mostly in Mr. Mirage’s hive of scum and villainy (note: not nearly as cool as Mos Eisley.)) Yes, it’ll be an all new, all sexy, and all wonderful grand finale that clear up all the loose ends and blow you right off your seat to the back of the cinema. It’ll contain gripping drama, as the characters come to figure out just who the hell they are and then sacrifice their lives the for the sake of the universe. It’ll be dark and introspective piece, one that’ll go out with a bang. No survivors! Except me! Because I rock!

BONUS MATERIALS include a deep and insightful audio commentary by me, the original author as I read DM’s response to my original posts, and make fun of it, along with making fun of his readers, then making fun of the people who hilariously flamed me on this very blog! It’s all fun and games, so stick around! Actually not this is the most boring post of them all and the party’s already over, but like Final Yamato, I’ll give you guys the ending you all want, even if it is a bit late.

Ok, time for the boring bit: First off my post wasn’t about Gundam. I understand how many of you would think that it is, and that’s partly my fault for focusing so much on Gundam and not making myself perfectly clear. I used Gundam as an illustration show how anime and its fans have changed over time, and how this change really bothers me. That’s all.

Secondly, scanning DM’s comments to make sure I’m not crazy, it seems a decent number of his minions think the entire post was directed at him. DM seems to think this as well, reading his opening paragraphs. No, I just used him as an example of the kind of fan that really pisses me off. I could have used anyone, but he’s just so good at being a bad blogger.

Thirdly, I do understand that’s it’s silly to get mad at people for having opinions, but something does need to be said about how the current generation of fans has no awareness (and at times) no respect for what came before. And in general people need a kick in the nads every now and then.

Bonus Audio Section: download

Recording this just reminded me that I suck at public speaking. Oh well, it has Giant Robo music so it’s awesome.

And so ends my latest masterwork. I can see you all enjoyed it, but sadly I’ll be keeping quite for a while, until I can find something else that pisses me off enough to rant angrily about then derive pleasure from its responses. Later :D

do you remember that old lullaby?

 intermission ALSO sexy preview footage of  3

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Sexy intermission music, by the house’s very own Isao Sasaki. Give him a clap, will you?!

I expressed distinct displeasure over getting level headed, somewhat well thought out responses to my epic fits of madness. However, times are changing with the comments left by Ashley (a crazy and angry woman, which are the funniest kinds of women) and wildarmshiro (I assume he is a bizzaro version of myself from Earth 942356 in one of our many wonderful alternate universes.) I’m quite happy with the amount of drama I’ve created. It really does put a giant smile on my face to read things like this and hilarious comments that go with it. This is almost as good as when I got banned from Something Awful.

ANYWAY, 3, the sexy final installment in this trillogy of terror will MOST PROBABLY BE a special installment in the MISTAKES OF YOUTH PODCAST (which is kind of on hiatus.) Here is a preview of what to expect.

Hey, I can’t talk right at 2am! But it gives me something to do since I can’t fukken sleep. I guess sitting on your arse doing nothing all day can do that to someone.

Have a Nice Dream

lol, found the Final Yamato sex scene on YouTube.

It’s more tasteful than I had thought it would be. Then again, I should have figured it wouldn’t be all out porno. I guess it’s pretty progressive for its time, except not, given the scene was cut out in subsequent releases.

Japan should be arrested for armed robbery

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

Seriously, fuck you Japan. I’ve given you so much money, and now you just want more?! FUCK YOU JAPAN. FUCK YOU.

I also may do a PART III to  but I don’t feel like it right now.

Final Yamato

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

So, that was the end of Yamato. I’ve pretty much seen all of it now, except for the third series, which I hear was as much of a non-event as this movie was, so whatever. I am really disapointed that the version I got didn’t have the scene in which Yuki and Kodai fuck. Unless Macias and Wikipedia are lying to me. I guess I gotta track that down, somehow.

In the meantime, does anyone happen to have the mp3 for this Yamato BGM that they play all the time? It’s called Mugen ni Hirogaru Daiuchuu. thx

 pt II FAREWELL WARRIORS OF LOVE

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

This is the super awesome sequel to my previous super awesome post. Unfortunately this post will probably make sense and be somewhat intelligible as it is not written while I bang my head against a wall. Well, the sequel can never be as good as the original, I suppose.

While I did not get disjointed fits of rage and luls in response (instead I got boring level-headed responses) I did learn a lot about the general mindset of the anime blogging community, which is something that has perplexed me for ages.

Basically, they’re mostly a bunch of pussy faggots.

Allow me to explain myself. This came to light when I got the “those old shows were good in their time” responses. In particular, tjhan’s sentiment of the original Gundam shows being shit, and their only merit being that they set the scene for “much better” shows like MS Igloo and 08th MS Team. Now, I’ve not seen MS Igloo (mostly because 3D CG is the bane of my existence) but I have seen 08th MS Team. I think 08th is a good show, but mostly for the attention to detail and Kawamoto’s character designs. It suffers from new Gundam syndrome a bit in that it’s written by pussies. Gundam has always been anti-war, but the old and new have very different ways about communicating this message. The way old Gundam did it was killing off everyone and having the viewer come to the conclusion that war is bad. New Gundam has pretty boys whine and cry about war being bad, and when there are deaths, the characters usually come back due to some contrived plot element. I should note that original Gundam also contains the force of nature that is Mr.Bright. Honestly, I’d watch new Gundam if only they had a Bright character to slap these faggy pretty boys into shape.

So, basically the thing here is that there is a distinct lack of manly passion in anime fans these days. It’s not that older works are shit, it’s that most newer mainstream works pander so heavily to the faggy mindset that plagues today’s youth. And that’s why they like them. Because they are faggots. Either that or they hate things that “look old”, and that’s pretty gay too.

I am thankful that most otaku shows are still aimed at men though, what with copious amounts naked chicks and the like. Sure, as far as savage manliness goes, it’s nothing compared to things like this, but it’s good to know such things are still considered when we live in a word that has people fagging out over shoujo or cumming buckets over horrible mainstream garbage.

Ok, that’s enough from me. I’m quite happy now, and off to watch FINAL YAMATO. The longest animated movie EVER. Apparently Kodai and Yuki fuck in the end. PS, spoilers.

What would you do?

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

This post is kind of a disjointed fit of rage, so please excuse me.

It’s not so much that I’m mad at Gundam 00. I’m not one to get mad at TV shows, that’s a silly thing to do. I am however mad at people watching and liking it. This, again, is something very silly. I usually don’t get mad about things like this, but Gundam 00 is kind of the straw that broke the camel’s back. In that, it was the breaking point on a build up of rage I have towards modern anime fans for having shitty taste in general.

Gundam 00 on its own isn’t that offensive. I mean, it’s just your normal boring anime, one of many that clogs Japanese airwaves these days. I think what pushes it to moderate hate level is the clear fujoshi pandering and the absolutely horrible opening and ending numbers. What causes me to explode into FITS OF RAGE is when I read gay fanboying like this (yes, I did just call DarkMirage out. Your blog FUCKING SUCKS, by the way.) The first thing that crosses my mind is, “have these kids even seen the original Gundam?” I was one of the many kids who was first introduced to Gundam through Gundam Wing on the Cartoon Network, back in 2000 (though before then, a friend of mine had a Gundam shirt which I found very cool.) Back in those days, I thought Wing was alright, simply because it was something I just had never seen before (incidentally, ever wonder where the “heero” part of my screenname comes from?) It was probably my first robot anime, actually. However, deep down I desperately wanted to see the original. When Cartoon Network announced that they were going to air the original, I was fucking ecstatic. I tuned it right as it came on, and I’m pretty sure I was thoroughly blown away. I didn’t fully understand its true awesomeness then, but I knew it was far better than the trash I had been fed earlier (though I will admit, Wing gets good points as a comedy.)

While I was eating up good ol’ UC Gundam on the CN, a bunch of other kids weren’t watching it. Thusly, the show gets canceled, and I am left in despair. Basically, what I’m trying to get at is, why do people settle for less? Anyone with half a brain can tell that Gundam 00 is written for idiots. Why watch that when you could watch the original three movies, Zeta Gundam, and the various UC OVAs? While those all vary in quality, they are all WORLDS better than any Alternate Universe Gundam (not counting G-Gundam, since G-Gundam is AWESOME.) I guess the answer to that question is that people actually like it. This confuses me to no end. I mean, I can understand liking the Seed series as a sexy comedy, but actually taking it seriously? Give me a break.

What’s more distressing is how now-a-days I feel a lot fans simply have no grounding in anime. How many newer fans have actually sat down to watch classics like Lupin III, Ashita no Joe, Space Battleship Yamato, Cutie Honey, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, and of course, First Gundam (comedy Fist of the North Star option). I can’t say I’ve watched all of these, but by just watching of a few of those listed there, I’ve gained great insight into more modern shows and their influences. So, naturally, it bothers me when I see your average Joe anime blogger fanboying about your typical horrible anime, clearly displaying a lack of knowledge or perspective.

You know, I don’t even know where I was going with this. Actually, I’m just really mad. This is the first FIT OF RAGE I’ve had in a while. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll go watch Kaiji or something…

Comic Site Rant: Farewell, Gundam

Original Post

Sunrise has finally done it. As of right now, I will not watch any new Gundam show ever again. It’s not so much that Gundam 00 is totally fucking horrible (though there is that, too) but the franchise has strayed so far from what made it good. Everything from the terrible opening and ending tracks to the sickening male character designs just makes me want to puke. It also doesn’t help that it only took 2 episodes for the story to just get fucking boring and bogged down with line upon line of horrid dialogue. So yeah, goodbye Gundam. It’s been fun, but now it’s done. I’ll just stick to old UC series from now on.

Gundam 00 sucks

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

This show got boring fast. At least with Seed/Destiny they had that whole corny soap opera feel that made them fun to watch. This just feels like Wing with worse music and even gayer character designs. I really just wanna drop this right now, but my inner Gundam fan says to stick out for another 45 weeks…

Dream Party 2007 Limited Edition Really? Really! Kaede-chan Nyan Nyan♪ Life Size Dakimakura Cover Review

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Not just the usual LAWLS LOOK WHAT WEIRD THING I BOUGHT post. This is a proper review, somewhat influenced by Shingo’s recent review.

Anime dakimakura covers are truly wondrous things. They provide for us, the lonely otaku, companionship in the form of our favourite characters. I was sucked into these things about a year ago, when I bought my first dakimakura cover of Kaede Fuyou. The cover was a freebie that came with the game Really? Really! if you had bought it at a certain store, and featured Kaede on a bed with her clothes scattered and her bra pulled up, revealing a cute pair of breasts. I got it off Yahoo auctions for about 5000 yen. Since then, I’ve been addicted. I don’t have quite as much as certain individuals out there (the right people will know who I’m referring to) but my collection of waifu is steadily growing, with this second Kaede dakimakura being the newest member in the family.

Taken from here.

Current Shows
Clannad: It’s good, but I feel a bit apathetic towards it at the moment. Not leaving as much of an impression as Kanon did. Then again, with Kanon I was already familiar with the narrative and characters, so that acted as a good buffer. Hopefully the serious bits of this story will be better than what Kanon gave us. Currently refraining from Air comparisons since I’ve not seen that in a while.
ef: Finding its groove about four episodes in. All the directorial tricks and stuff are starting fall into place naturally without seeming forced like they did initially. I still find it hard to care about these characters, but I do relate to Hirono in a way.
Genshiken 2: The Ohno x Tanaka chapter that was brushed over in previous adaptations was re-envisioned splendidly in episode 4. I guess Kio felt this was an opportunity to give that bit of the story more of a punch, so he did. Other than that, it continues to be a well-produced retelling of the original comic. Also, I love studio ARMS.
Ghost Hound: Still moving along rather slowly, but good. Has a lot potential, but has barely acted on it as of yet.
Hayate no Gotoku: There really isn’t much to say about this show, aside from the fact that it’s the same hilarious parody show that it’s always been.
Kaiji: I’m really liking this show, but I categorize it differently from everything else I’m watching, given the unique style and subject matter. I’d call it tastefully overdone. Each episode has me at the edge of my seat.
Kodomo no Jikan: The editing really kills some scenes.
Minami-ke: Not laugh out loud funny, but entertaining and thoroughly charming. I’m loving the running joke about that TV drama.
Moyashimon: I still think the best part about this show is opening, but it’s slowly getting better. Thus far I feel the focus on the science parts are a bit too strong, but I suppose that’s the point.
Shana II: Episode 4 was boring.
Sky Girls: Getting back on track. It was spending too much time with badly written drama and not enough time having fun, like it should.

Chopping Board
Dragonaut: See: http://mistakesofyouth.com/images/dragonaut.jpg. I may just buy that Uno Makoto artbook then drop this.
Gundam 00: Actually kinda boring.

Not so current shows
Rocket Girls: Still haven’t gotten too far past the midpoint, but it’s fine. Good, but nothing worth writing the folks about. Already questionable production values are getting even more questionable.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is being subbed rather quickly for the kind of show that it is. Episode 9 was hilarious. Going to catch up with HidaSketch when I have time.

Reading
I’ve gotten through a good number of manga volumes lately. Finally getting to volume 6 of Excel Saga, which I bought about 5 months ago. Also have back issues of OTAKU USA. Thinking of buying more Macias books, like TokyoScope, Fresh Pulp and Japanese School Girl Inferno. Also interested in Matt Alt’s Hello, Please!
