In all honesty I think besides Saito, Guiche, Derflinger, and Louise they did a pretty good job matching the voices to the characters. Now if only the actors were actually good at acting.
It’s back and my ears want to bleed.
The Japanese can’t get good live action actors even when they pay them and in America, they can’t get good voice actors even if you pay them. Saito sounds like the voice of Kouta in Elfen Lied English dub to me.

Actually, it’s more like you can’t always get good voice actors because the pay is shit. Union pay for anime dubbing is like something over $60 bucks an hour. Video games are much better money-wise, even if they’re just dubbing too.
But why would the the great american voice actors who do domestic animation and get over $200 dollars (I have to check that rate) a session for some kid’s cartoon do anime for shit pay?
It’s either 1. The actor is a good american voice actor whose career has hit slow patch and need whatever cash they can get. But they don’t view dubbing something as important, so they just phone in their performance.
2. The voice actor is an anime lover and wants to do it despite the pathetic pay, but they have no acting training.
3. The director/casting person is a complete loony, so while you may get two or three people who are sound alright because they can self-direct themselves, everyone else who was hired sounds terrible. (I blame this reason more than any these days)
After watching: Ugh. All extremely bland. Saito is the worst, which is not good since you have to listen to him the most. It’s like they took no effort to put any characterization or nuance into their performances beyond what the three lined little blurb on their audition sheet said.
Looking up these voices, these people are all complete newbies in any kind of professional voice acting. Most of them have maybe three shows they’ve been in. I actually know the chicks playing Louise and Tabitha (though it’s been forever since I’ve talked to either of them). Christina shows a bit of promise in her work (IMHO), but it’s still raw. If she got some acting or theatre training, who knows?
In my honest opinion, I think most of the female voice actors did fine. Saito’s and Guiche’s sound like total douche bags, but the rest sound at least fitting of their characters for the most part. Guiche sounds like his voice actor is playing a flamboyant gay guy, and both him and Saito sound like they’re out of college…
all i can and could say was GAHHHHH my hears….though i find the only anime that went dub that had good voice actors was Saiyuki….NOT the second season, just the first…..

lol well Louise wasn’t so bad but Saito sounded like a 40 year old man, probably because he was voiced by a 40 year old man.

Fukken dubs!? Wait.. what?
November 25th, 2008 at 00:38:26
Saito’s voice is terrible, but he;s not the greatest guy anyways. He sounds like a geek XD
November 25th, 2008 at 10:34:02
Yeah. The voices for the ladies weren’t bad at all. But Saito’s sucked. :P
November 25th, 2008 at 18:22:44
People still watch dubs and get angry over them? That is sooooo 90s.
November 25th, 2008 at 19:44:06
