Comic Site Rant: COBRA
I had to do something about Minami-ke, even if it is a not very clever penis joke. I kind have something similar written for Ef, but I’m not sure if I want to do it now. Honestly, after reading some entries at The Comics Curmudgeon the writing here just looks even more horrible. I bet if I was a newspaper comic he’d tear me apart. I need to do better. The art here is ok. I used the pencil tool to do most of the shading rather than the pentool. I should keep doing this, since it’s far less restrained than the pentool. Though, sometimes you need control, like with the shadows on the face from the hair, so I still whip out the pentool for that.
Lots of anime related news came in over the past week, mostly in the form of announcements for more seasons of various franchises, those being Haruhi, Zero no Tsukaima and Higurashi. In Haruhi’s case it was just KyoAni being less cryptic (but still rather cryptic), but 0nT and Higurashi being more normal franchises had BS-free announcements. I think Haruhi is a very good show and I am quite excited for a sequel, since the first season really only got totally awesome by the end. I’m also excited for Zero No Tsukaima. I really liked the second series, even if no one else did. It was a fun fanservice romp that never really took itself too seriously, so I look forward to more. I have no opinion on Higurashi, since I’ve never seen it past the opening.
I have one episode left of Cobra. I won’t say much here, since I’ll blog it all once I’m done. What I will say is that it’s a severely underrated show and that everyone should watch it because it’s awesome. Also, to all you people who think old anime is unwatchable, this show looks far better than a lot of the stuff that’s come out over the past 10 years. Gotta love those 80s budgets.
Anyway, I’m out for now.
Have you got the movie version of Cobra to watch as well?
I dunno, I wouldn’t necessarily say that Cobra is underrated – being old it’s certainly not something that much of western fandom is aware of (I’ve seen the movie previously, admittedly in dubbed form with all the music replaced ¬_¬), but it’s one of those shows what seems to be fairly legendary in Japan. I think it’s one of the shows I’ve seen referenced in other series the most, if nothing else.
I like Cobra. Downloading the movie now…
I loved the second season of ZnT, just hated the ending. I CRIED OVER HIS DEATH, YOU ASSHOLES! Then, “HAY GAIZ GUESS WUT HE’S ALIVE LAWL” >:(
Anyway, you should watch Higurashi.
If you were to do something about ef, wouldn’t it be put a photoshop filter around a penis? Seems there style.
Or a photoshop filter, and a bad poem.
Don’t forget the Cobra movie. You may care to see this too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9aWPTCc2r0 (Irritating song, though. How’d it get into Guitar Hero 2?)

That is one creepy fucker.
Yeah, I have the Cobra movie and will watch it very soon. I was also aware of that music video, just never watched it to the end.
DiGiKerot: I was more referring to its English speaking fanbase, which is pretty much non-existent. I’m surprised no one has licensed it, actually. It still looks very good by today’s standards, could easily run on Adult Swim and also be interesting to those who don’t like anime given its western feel and realistic character design.
Irionicly, this week my anime club (in addion to having a Tourny involing us playing mugen, don’t ask how this works) watched Lagann 7,8 and 9.
Eventauly, the laughing in regards to the (if not intentional) dick jokes in regards to Dai-Gurren got to the point where I said outloud.
“Ok, we get the joke, the bow is supposed to look like a dick, we get the joke, the joke could not be gotten more than it has right now, never before has a joke been gotten…”.
Don’t feel bad Wildarmsheero, Zero season 2 was awesome. Way better than the first season… so I guess I’m hoping it’ll carry on making the third even better.
Higurashi is awesome in the same sense that Gurren Lagann is. Let me explain… both have a very unique completely out of the mainstream styles WITHOUT regards to any kind of censorship or crap like that.
Higurashi is the show where you can see a cute loli stab herself with a big knife in the head (no censorship with extra blood) about 6 times before falling dead to the ground ^^
