In all honesty, the only reason why I download the Haruhi episodes now is to skip to the end.

It’s a bit annoying, but the genius of it is what’s really getting me.

I was in the same mindset with what you were talking about with “the accidental hit, maybe they’ll try to hard” but this endless eight is showing me that they aren’t just going on doing shitty fan service type stuff and pandering to the fanbase. They’re doing what they want to do, which is what they did the first time around. I think this shows promise for what’s yet to come.

The Endless Eight arc seems very interesting . The one thing that I’m actually paying attention to during this arc is Yuki. After learning that Yuki has relived the same summer vacation over 15,000 times, there should be a drastic change to her character.

Omg, finally someone who agrees with me. I thought the idea of Endless 8 was really clever and ambitious. Like no one has done it before.

BUT The reason why no one has done it before, is probably because it boring and tedious. Which the endless 8 exactly is.

Damn! I just finished watching the latest iteration, and it was quite good. It had a very different tone to it, which freshened the events up quite a bit. It was probably the best directed episode of Endless Eight yet. I’m sure that’s a pithy prize to those who are taking issue most with this recursive move, but it should be said. And I do really feel a part of the repeating time now.

I think you did a good job of highlighting both the pluses and minuses of what is being done with Haruhi S2. I too think that the move won’t hold up on a second viewing (or a marathon viewing). It seems that most of this arc would then have to be skipped on rewatch, which does cheapen the series a bit.

But of course, if the rest of the season is spectacular, most people will come around right on back. In the end, this IS Haruhi after all.

I can’t imagine ever rewatching these Endless Eight episodes, except for part one and the eventual last part. Two parts would have been clever (most fans were only expecting a one-episode adaptation), but by the time part 3 ended, I was losing my patience already. I just hope next week’s episode will put us out of our misery.

Though, you know how you were saying you were trying to think up a comic that would appropriately mock the Endless Eight? Wait until the arc actually fucking ends, and then a write a comic joking that Rets has become stuck in his own time loop where he has to spend the 5 weeks or so that it took to end the arc in the first place.

I gotta agree, Kyoto Animation is pulling off one hell of a trolling experiment, but the goodwill I had here is gone. It’s kinda like the drunk guy at a party who tells a mildly amusing joke. Sure, you chuckle at first, but then the drunk guy thinks if he keeps saying the same joke louder you’ll laugh even more. So he keeps saying it over and over, raising his voice each time to the point you just dump your beer on his head and walk away.

So screw it, if they’re not going to bother writing new episodes, then I’ve got better things to do with my free time.
