The original Minami-ke certainly had a whole lot better feel to it than Okawari did. The animation I could live with , the personality changes and relationship changes, however small , where not tuned just right to feel the same… Chiaki in Okawari was completely different than in Minami -Ke. The one thing I did like in Okawari is Uchida… She cracks me up when she cracks up…

Stop comparing things to Shuffle… to you that’s like comparing Jesus to God.
«Jesus wasn’t bad but he’s got nothing on God.» is kinda how it ends up.
Okawari was kinda blend but like Lucky Star, it just scores major points because of the intro.

Side note on intros, the best fight in Gundam 00 was the final opening, now THAT is sad.

I’ve never even seen one episode. I didn’t plan to either cos I didn’t want my liking to Minami-ke the first season to be ruined.

I was also disappointed by the relatively weak asread script for Okawari, mostly because I thought that they did a great eroge conversion for Shuffle! with a clear ‘one girl wins’ ending that still managed to deal with the other girls’ stories in a way that worked with the winning choice.

But as you pointed out:

That strange creative spirit is part of why asread interests me as a studio.

I’m looking forward to what else they’ll come up with and if their talents in the harem comedy genre can be sustained and whether it can be extended to other areas like slice of life, action etc.

Well written. I totally agree that the opening animation was well done, but halfway through the first episode I decided to stop watching and have not picked it up since. Maybe I should.
