Cutting out angels probably screws with the symbolism on some front. I'm thinking hey take the montage route. I look forward to all 4 movies.

Interesting thoughts. I too think the filler can be cut safely without compromising what made Eva so special--its introspection and attention to character. The thing is though, as regard to episodic pacing, is that that is appropriate for TV, but not for feature film.

My guess too is that Anno really does want to rewrite the story, probably to correct things he regards as "mistakes" (or perhaps to say things differently on issues he may have changed his mind on). He's married happily and much more emotionally stable than before, presumably, though as the Atlantic Monthly interview I highlighted a few months back shows, he's still rather pessimistic about society. I wonder what runs through his head when he watches the old series and movie now.

We'll be recording our podcast tonight with this as a topic, so stay tuned. :)
