Seriously? :O I thought I was the only one deeply affected by this ending, as opposed to the Manga one...I've heard many opinions calling the Anime ending clichéd, but I for one liked it (as in "ZOMG NOOOOO Light died and he was so pretty and it was so sad ;______;). You're right, it definitely led the watcher to be able to feel some regret that Light's life had been cut short by the whole Death Note gamut, and sympathize with his humanity.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with the Manga...Light just went down pleading and screaming like a coward, which didn't do much for final impressions. I guess the Manga version is more about what *did* happen, while the Anime ending focuses on what could have been but was lost.

In summary: Liiiight ;__________;

I don't know about the anime, but the final scene in the manga showed that after his death he had hundreds of people led by Misa holding a vigil in his honor. So at least after his death a lot of people still treated him like a God. Other than that, he pretty much got fucked.
