No no, I LIKE that the director doesn't like the magna. The director for the TV show also director very heart-warming, positive films like "The Cat Returns", so I think he hates the original because it's so dark and depressing. But he's still doing a really good job, and I really admire that he's trying to save some of the characters.

I dunno, i can't really respect someone who doesn't like what they're doing. I was ready to watch Bokurano until I read that thing about the director and I kinda retracted. i get the feeling he's not even doing what he wants to, he's just doing whatever he can to spite the manga. That seems ignorant to me...

He is doing a great job although he hates this work? I guess this is what a real pro is about xD He should do more adaptions of things he hates.

I think, hating a work you have to adapt can be even a very good thing. You can put the best effort into turning it into something you like. This motivation may not be that negative as it seems at first.

I guess this attitude is not unusual in the industry given the bad quality of most anime. Somehow I cannot imagine for example that all those third class ecchi comedies were made with heart. In the end making anime is just a job, too, and jobs aren't that pleasent most of the time.
I suppose there aren't many artists who are lucky and may express themselves as Anno did in EVA.

After catching up on Bokurano the anime, it's okay enough and I'll continue watching it, but it is very much lacking the (insane Mohiro Kitoh) personality compared to the manga. Gonzo and Morita Hiroyuki turned it into a relatively tame sci-fi character drama from a tragic, somewhat depressing sci-fi character drama. That's a pretty huge difference.

Incidentally, the comic happens to one of my favorite manga ever. I'm liking it more than I did Narutaru and I really enjoyed that too.

Regardless of anything else, Hazuki is
