I really liked the Bokurano manga but I even loved the anime more (I enjoy it as well as Gurren Lagann, which is quite different thought). I think it is a splendid piece of animation showing us that psychological drama has not ended with Evangelion. I am also okay with Gonzo's alternative retelling. They made some scences more impressing but also cut down on the cruelness from the manga (episode 6 for example should have ended much more shocking and different than it was in the anime).
As for the technical values, the background music is simply great, the animation is just okay. But that rather simple and quiet style fits the content very well. It is a bit sad that the robots are really bad CGI - it looks like from ten years ago (how I hate those slooowly movements). Even Gonzo can do this better.
